About the Peter Parker and Spider-Man Dynamic
Everyone knows the classic superhero origin story involving Peter Parker. He goes to a science fair and during a routine experiment with a radioactive laser a spider gets exposed to some radiation but before it dies it bites Peter Parker; gifting these extraordinary abilities.
What happens next is his life is forever changed. From wrestling to catching bad guys, Peter Parker has done it all. However, it’s during one fateful day that he refuses to help stop a thief from stealing a bag of cash after a wrestling match that later that day the same thief shoots Uncle Ben. Teaching a hard lesson that “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility.” A lesson that all of us learned all those years ago when we first sat down with a Spider-Man comic book.
Since then, the Peter Parker/Spidey dynamic has been one of careful balance. As his social life usually takes a backseat to his crime fighting life resulting in friend’s lost, loved one’s hurt and bad guys getting away with more than they probably should with.
With that balance, however, Peter Parker has been able to develop an impressive array of catch phrases that have annoyed many a foe throughout many movies. Here’s our time favourite quotes. We hope you enjoy them.
Spider-Man Quotes from Spider-Man (2002)
In the first Spider-Man film, Peter Parker gets bitten by a radioactive abilities which he needs to learn to use to battle evil. Oh yeah, and Mary Jane is in there somewhere, too.

“Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I’m Spider-man.”
“You don’t trust anyone, that’s your problem.”
“Go web! Fly! Up, up, and away web! Shazaam! Go! Go! Go web go! Tally ho.”
“I’m not like you. You’re a murderer.”
“Who am I? You sure you want to know? The story of my life is not for the faint of heart. If somebody said it was a happy little tale… if somebody told you I was just your average ordinary guy, not a care in the world… somebody lied. But let me assure you: This, like any story worth telling, is all about a girl. That girl. The girl next door. Mary Jane Watson. The woman I’ve loved since before I even liked girls.”
“Hey, kiddo. Let Mom and Dad talk for a minute, will ya?”
“You have a knack for getting in trouble.”
Spider-Man quotes from Spider-Man 2 (2004)
In the second Spider-Man film, Peter Parker comes face to face with his mentor and his biggest threat yet, Doctor Otto Octavius, tells Mary Jane the truth and his best friend, Harry Osborne, finds out that he killed his father.
“Yeah, it’s kind of itchy… and it rides up in the crotch a little bit, too.”
“I can’t live your dreams anymore. I want a life of my own.”
“You don’t understand! I’m not an empty seat anymore. I’m different! Punch me I bleed.”
“Hey, you two. No playing in the street. See ya!”
“Spider-Man will always have enemies. I can’t let you take that risk. I will always be Spider-Man. You and I can never be…”
“Am I not supposed to have what I want? What I need? What am I supposed to do.”
“I wanna tell you the truth… here it is: I’m Spider-Man. Weird, huh? Now you know why I can’t be with you. If my enemies found out about you… if you got hurt, I could never forgive myself. I wish I could tell you how I feel about you…”
Spider-Man quotes from Spider-Man 3 (2007)
In the third and final Spider-Man film with Sam Raimi as director, Peter Parker comes up against the biggest threats of his life. Sandman takes on Spider-Man, Spider-Man takes on Eddie Brock aka Venom, Peter Parker goes emo and the showdown between Harry Osborne and Spider-Man reaches its epic conclusion.
“Whatever comes our way, whatever battle we have raging inside us, we always have a choice. My friend Harry taught me that. He chose to be the best of himself. It’s the choices that make us who we are, and we can always choose to do what’s right.”
Harry Osborn: You gonna kill me like you killed my father?
Spider-Man: I’m done trying to convince you.
Harry Osborn: You took him from me. He loved me.
Spider-Man: No. He despised you. You were an embarrassment to him.
[sees tears in Harry’s eyes]
Spider-Man: Oh. Look at little Goblin Junior. Gonna cry?
“It’s me, Peter Parker. Your friendly neighborhood – you know. I’ve come a long way since I was the boy bit by a spider. Back then nothing seemed to go right for me. Now people really like me. The city is safe and sound. Guess I had a little something to do with that. My uncle Ben would be proud. I still go to school. Top of my class. And I’m in love. With the girl of my dreams.”
Spider-Man: Eddie, the suit, you’ve got to take it off.
Eddie Brock: Oh, you’d like that, wouldn’t you?
Spider-Man: I know what it feels like. It feels good. The power. Everything. But you’ll lose yourself. It’ll destroy you. Let it go.
Eddie Brock as Venom: I like being bad. It makes me happy.
“I guess you haven’t heard. I’m the sheriff around these parts!”
Spider-Man quotes from The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
The first of The Amazing Spider-Man films sets Peter Parker on a different trajectory. As a high school student we’re introduced to Peter Parker gaining his powers for the first time, losing Uncle Ben, falling in love with Gwen Stacy and taking on one of his biggest foes yet: The Lizard.
Spider-Man: Ahem. You know, in the future, if you’re going to steal cars, don’t dress like a car thief, man.
Car Thief: Who are you? Are you a cop?
Spider-Man: Really? You seriously think I’m a cop? Cop in a skin-tight red and blue suit?
“Uh-oh. Somebody’s been a bad lizard.”
Spider-Man: Is that a knife? Is that a real knife?
Car Thief: Yes, it’s a real knife.
Spider-Man: My weakness. Small knives. Anything but knives!
“Cross-species genetics. Person gets Parkinson’s when the brain cells that produce dopemine start to disappear. But the zebra fish has the ability to regenerate cells on command. If you could somehow give this ability to the woman you’re talking about, that’s that. She’s… She’s curing herself.”
Spider-Man quotes from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
This Spider-Man film acquainted mainstream audiences with one of the very first Spidey villains: Electro. Thankfully, Electro’s suit was updated and the portrayal of the infamous spidey villain by Jamie Foxx stunned audiences the world over.
“You know what it is I love about being Spider-Man? Everything!”
“Everyday I wake up knowing that no matter how many lives I protect, no matter how many people call me a hero, someone even more powerful could change everything.”
“On behalf of the fine people of New York and real rhinos everywhere, I ask you to put your mechanized paws in the air!”
“There really is no place like home.”
“You’re wrong about us being on different paths. We’re not on different paths, you’re my path and you’re always gonna be my path. And I know there’s a million reasons why we shouldn’t be together, I know that. But I’m tired of them, I’m tired of every single one of them, you know I gotta make a choose, Gwen, I choose you.”
“Knock, knock. Mr. Criminal? Hey, my name is Spider-Man. You can call me Web-Head, you can call me Amazing, just don’t call me late for dinner. You get it?”
Spider-Man quotes from Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
With Tom Holland introduced as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming was the first film to feature the English actor as webbed wall-crawler. In Homecoming, Spider-Man is pitted against Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture, however, this Adrian Toomes is far from the billionaire inventor depicted in the comic books.
In this film, The Vulture runs an organisation that has been stealing the alien technology that has littered New York city, thanks to the previous Avengers vs Chitauri battle (depicted in the first Avengers film). And only Spider-Man can stop him.
Peter Parker: I’m sick of Mr. Stark treating me like a kid.
Ned Leeds: But you are a kid.
Peter Parker: Yeah. A kid who can stop a bus with his bare hands.
“It is I, Thor, son of Odin!”
Spider-Man: I got you!
Karen: This is your chance. Kiss her.
“No one has actually told me why I’m in Berlin or what I’m doing. Something about Captain America going crazy.”
Spider-Man: You missed! You didn’t even hit me!
Adrian Toomes: Yeah, but then again… I wasn’t even trying to.
“It is really cool seeing you guys in person.”
“Just a typical homecoming, on the outside of an invisible jet, fighting my girlfriend’s dad.”
Spider-Man quotes from Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
Spider-Man: Far From Home was one big red herring of a comic book film. Initially introducing us to a fan-favourite super villain, Mysterio, we spend half the show assuming that Kevin Feige and co had repurposed him to be a good guy. However, in the last half of the film we learn that Mysterio is as formidable a foe as any other villain that Spidey had faced to date.
He even succeeded where others had failed: by revealing Spider-Man’s secret identity to the entire world.
“Peter Parker here to pick up a passport please!”
Mysterio: Fury asked me to check you were OK.
Spider-Man: That was nice.
Mysterio: You do have sarcasm on this world, don’t you?
“You can’t trick me anymore.”
“Excuse me, sir! I can help! Let me help! I’m really strong and I’m… sticky!”
“The world needs the next Iron Man.”
“Guys, guys, I just wanted dressing on the side! Red bell pepper, anyone? That’s it, I’m definitely not giving you a 20% tip!”
“Does anyone have any neighborhood questions?”
Spider-Man quotes from Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
This was the sixth film in Tom Holland’s six film deal that he inked with Marvel and Disney. It was also the film that opened up endless possibilities in the Spider-Man multiverse. Loaded with fan service, No Way Home seamlessly re-introduced us to Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man characters when a deal with Doctor Strange goes horribly wrong.
Unfortunately, this results in the death of Aunt May and makes everyone forget that Peter Parker is Spider-May (even Mary Jane). Adding a truly heartbreaking ending which sets Spider-Man on a darker tone for future films.
Ned Leeds: Wait so you’re Spider-Man too? Why didn’t you just say that?
Peter Parker: I generally don’t go around advertising it. Kind of defeats the whole anonymous superhero thing.
“You know magic, but I know mathematics!”
Green Goblin: Poor Peter… too weak to send me home to die.
Spider-Man: No. I just wanna kill you myself.
Green Goblin: Attaboy!
Spider-Man: It’s actually my fault that you’re here.
Max Dillon: Like, the universe? Or the woods? I hate the woods.
Spider-Man: I meant the universe, sir.
“You gonna go into battle dressed as a cool youth pastor, or… you got your suit?”
Peter Parker: [as Peter 3 morosely looks at Peter 1 and MJ having a moment together] You have someone?
Peter Parker: No.
[sighs]
Peter Parker: I got no time for, uh, Peter Parker stuff, y’know. Do you?
Peter Parker: Uh, it’s a little… complicated.
Peter Parker: No, I understand. I guess it’s just not in the cards for guys like us.
Peter Parker: Well… I wouldn’t give up. Took a while, but we made it work.
Peter Parker: Yeah?
Peter Parker: Yeah, me and… MJ.
[pause]
Peter Parker: My MJ, uh… it gets confusing here.
