Water Review
‘Water’ features Big Lo at a stunning retro party reminiscent of prohibition-era speakeasies. This footage is juxtaposed with clips of Big Lo playing with his daughter. All of this is played over a chill lofi beat and Big Lo’s smooth rapping.
The video fits perfectly with the themes found in the song’s lyrics. As artists, we struggle to find success in our craft, erase our flaws, and provide for our families. While the road to success is slow and filled with pitfalls, our responsibilities are steadfast. Balancing these two parts of life is something most artists always have at the forefront of their minds.
As a new father, the chorus of “I’m tryin’ to make a dollar/and pass it on to my daughter/but all I cause is problems/I am not a god and I cannot walk on water” hits close to home. It may be cliche to say that having children changes you, but it does. The daily grind shifts from an ego-driven run towards success to a full out sprint to do the best for your family.
‘Water’ is the music video I needed this week. I am happy to have heard a song that speaks to me through the stresses of being both an artist and a parent. I am even happier to have found a talented fellow traveler like Big Lo.
