One of the best parts of Bob’s Burgers is the number of subtle puns and jokes hidden in the show. We have Bob’s ‘Burger Of The Day’, and even the episode titles have jokes and references in them.
Today we are going to take a look at all of the introduction stores in season 2 of Bob’s Burgers. Let us know your favorites on social media!
Bob’s Burgers Season 2 Store Gags
Uncle Marty’s Breast Pumps
Episode: Season 2, Episode 1 – “The Belchies”
If there is one person who knows about the intricacies of pregnant women’s bodies, it’s Uncle Marty. Just kidding, like many uncles, this guy sounds like a real creep.
Hannibal’s Dead Animals Taxidermy
Episode: Season 2, Episode 2 – “Bob Day Afternoon”
It is possible that Hannibal is referring to Hannibal Lecter. The sign of a young serial killer is often the killing of innocent animals. Is this store a play on serial killers hurting animals? It could also be that Hannibal rhymes with animals, and I’m reading too deep into this two-second joke in a cartoon.
Pookah Pagoda: Pookah Shell Warehouse
Episode: Season 2, Episode 3 – “Synchronized Swimming”
All these tacky pookah shell necklaces have to be coming from somewhere. I think we may have cracked the case. Jokes aside, this would probably be a good business as we know that Bob’s Burgers takes place close to the ocean.
A Fridge Too Far: Used Appliances
Episode: Season 2, Episode 4 – “Bugerboss”
This store is a reference to the classic 1977 film “A Bridge Too Far”. The film stars Dirk Bogarde, Sean Connery, Edward Fox, and Anthony Hopkins. This war movie tells the story of a team of World War 2 allies strategically attacking Nazi Germany.
That’s Improv-able Improv Theatre
Episode: Season 2, Episode 5 – “Food Truckin'”
I am not sure if there is a specific joke here. I just know that many improv comedy teams have corny names like this. It is a common joke on TV comedies when improv comics come into the scene.
Stickers For Men
Episode: Season 2, Episode 6 – “Dr. Yap’
What does this even mean? I’m a man. I like stickers. That said I’ve never heard of gender-based stickers. I would be very interested to see what they offer inside this store.
Grindecologist Coffee Shop
Episode: Season 2, Episode 7 – Moody Foodie
In the intro, you can’t quite see the full title. Is this a hybrid coffee shop/OBGYN? That can’t be sanitary. That said, a latte after being prodded and probed could be a small consolation prize.
Valley Of The Doilies
Episode: Season 2, Episode 8 – “Bad Tina”
This is a reference to the classic 1967 film ‘Valley of the Dolls’. The film stars Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke, Sharon Tate, and Susan Hayward. The plot surrounds the successes, failures, and drama surrounding New York City actresses.
Yes, Wire Hangers!
Episode: Season 2, Episode 9 – “Beefsquatch”
This is a reference to the line “No wire hangers!” from the 1981 drama Mommy Dearest. The film stars Faye Dunaway, Diana Scarwid, and Steve Forrest. Mommy Dearest tells the biographical story of actress Joan Crawford. After her life doesn’t go as planned, she begins showing abusive tendencies toward her adopted children.
