How To Get The Cheapest Netflix Subscription Possible
It’s actually simple to get an extremely cheap Netflix subscription. While not as quick as simply signing up for Netflix, the extra time is worth the extra money saved on your subscription. For the highest tier of Netflix, currently $19.99 a month in the US market, I pay $4 a month.
That’s right, a $16 a month (80% off of the US pricing) savings for a few extra minutes to sign up. All it takes is a few simple steps and you’re on your way to paying so much less for Netflix, it isn’t even funny. Here’s how to get the cheapest possible Netflix subscription.

Step 1: Get A VPN
There are a ton of VPN options out there right now, and which one to choose is ultimately up to you. The good news is, if you already have a VPN, you should be good to go. I would first make sure your VPN isn’t blocked by Netflix, which is most easily done by trying to access a different country’s version of Netflix and trying to play something. Once you’ve verified that it works, you can move on to step two.
If you’re still with me, this is the time to get choosy. For a full rundown, I would recommend looking at CNET’s list of best VPNs. They give a wide range of pros and cons and show which one is the best deal if you’re planning on keeping the VPN for future use. For our purposes, I’ll break down which one will factor in to the lowest initial setup cost to keep the bang for your buck going.
Based on CNET’s recommendations, the cheapest VPN to use is IPVanish, at just $10.99 per month. Buy the monthly subscription, install the VPN, and we’re ready for step two.
Step 2: The Gift Card
This is the most crucial step to the plan. To sign up for Netflix in a foreign country, you must have a credit/debit card from said region. There is a way around this, however. If you use a gift card from said region, you can sign up for a Netflix account in that region. To buy a regional Netflix gift card, we need to head over to MTC Game. For there, all we need to do is search for a Turkish Netflix gift card, as Turkey has the lowest regional pricing for Netflix at the time of writing. MTC charges a certain percentage above the actual exchange rate for the gift card, but they have to make money somewhere.
Currently, they offer two gift cards for purchase: one for 75 TL (Turkish lira)($6.54) and one for 100 TL ($8.78). You can buy either, but I opted for the 100 TL gift card, as this gives me two months of access.
“Here’s the catch,” you’re thinking to yourself. “I’m gonna have to keep buying these gift cards.” That is where you’re wrong, my friend. Remember how I said that to sign up for a regional Netflix account, you needed a card in that region? That was only to sign up. We use the gift card to get past this limitation. Once we’re signed up for Netflix, all we need to do is wait for the money on the gift card to run out and Netflix allows us to enter our own credit card, no questions asked. Crazy, right?
STEP 3: COMBINE EVERYTHING
Now is where the VPN comes into play. Close all of the web browsers that you currently have open (make sure you copy the link to this article to get back here after you’ve done this). Turn on your VPN and make sure the server is in Turkey. You will need an email address that hasn’t been used on Netflix before for this to work (at least as far as I am aware), so make sure you have that ready to go as well.
After that, navigate to Netflix, sign up for the account, and when it asks for payment, enter the gift card code you got in Step 2. When it navigates you to the Netflix homepage, you’re good to go. Close your browser again, turn off the VPN, and open Netflix back up. BAM! 4K US Netflix for less than a third of the normal US pricing. I have also tested this on a Roku, and the sign-in was just as easy as can be.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this legal? Yes, it is 100% legal. You are accessing the regular Netflix site, just at a lower cost than normal.
- Is this against Netflix Terms of Service? Technically, yes. Netflix’s Terms of Service does ban the use of VPNs to gain access to content from other regions, so I can safely assume they would frown upon using a VPN to gain cheaper access to their service. However, there haven’t been any recorded instances of accounts being terminated because of this, and, as stated in Question 1, there are no legal repercussions as the use of a VPN to access Netflix is legal.
- Is MTC Game a scam? No, it is not. Basically, what they do is resell gift codes that are legally paid for in their country of origin (again, with a little extra money for them on top). Getting payment to them was a little wonky in my experience, but after a second try, my card went through just fine and there have been no random charges on my card either. The payment method that worked for me was Google Play as it let me set the region of my card to the USA.
