An Interview With JoeJas

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me! Please tell the readers about yourself and the work you do.

JoeJas: Ayy no problem thank you for having me! My name is Joe I’m a rapper, producer, videographer, and professional water drinker. I make cool albums, make videos for the songs I think are super fire. Then I draw stuff on paint and make clothes that people seem to like.

How long have you been making music? How did you get your start?

JoeJas: I’ve been making music for over 10 years. It started when I was a kid it was ages ago, haha. I think it was just hearing music I thought was cool and I always remember watching MTV like ‘wow, what they’re doing is what I want to do’. I’m the sort of person where if I see something I think is cool I’ll find a way to do it.

I loved the video for ‘VENTURE?’. How did you come up with the concept?

JoeJas: The concept was based on flicking through TV channels originally. Then I changed it because I was like who watched TV anymore? So I made it as if I was flicking through Netflix or YouTube.

Making music takes a lot of time and energy. What do you do to stay productive?

JoeJas: With music I only try to make stuff when I feel inspired, or I just feel like I’m making trash banging my head against the wall. I also do a lot of other stuff outside of producing and rapping like; making clothes, shooting and editing videos, little animations, skateboarding, and putting on events so I’m always busy with something else.

Making music is often a collaborative process between parties such as artists, producers, promoters, and labels. How do you build relationships approach the collaborative process?

JoeJas: This is a funny one cause with my own stuff I’m in a bubble as I’m the artist, producer and I promote and put on my own events. In that, I lend my skills to people I think make cool stuff, like retopxssy who’s a cool artist. I make a lot of stuff with her like videos and beats to use, same with Letkojofly. So I kind of build by sharing what I’ve learned.

Burnout happens to the best of us. What strategies do you use to reduce stress and stay motivated?

JoeJas: Don’t over do things. If it’s not working it’s not working.

Outside of making music, what do you do for fun?

JoeJas: I skateboard, read comics, watch cartoons, play Pokemon (going crazy on Sword and Shield right now and showdown), and a bit of basketball.

What advice can you give to those who want to make their own music?

JoeJas: Just keep making what makes you feel good. No one is going to like everything you do and at the start, you’re going to suck a little. Once you get really good and stop being trash it will click for you. You also don’t need to follow any certain way of doing things. Make your own way that works for you. No one has life or music fully figured out.

Do you have any upcoming releases, events, or gigs you would like to promote?

JoeJas: I have these singles that I produced for people that didn’t make albums or we just made and didn’t do anything coming out under my brand/label Fat Llama. Also, I’m doing an event on the 21st of August to celebrate the 1st year of my 3rd album ‘Four Wing Island’ being alive and off my laptop. (It came out on the 28th but the venue had that day booked, lol.)

Thank you for chatting with me this week. Where can the readers find you and your work?

JoeJas: If you type in JoeJas anywhere you can stream music or videos you should be able to find me. Also to keep up to date on all the stuff I’m doing you can go to Fat Llama. THANKS GUYS I DID THIS IN MY UNDERWEAR!
