Jurassic World Dominion Trailer
Early Thursday, Universal dropped the first full trailer for Jurassic World Dominion, the epic conclusion to the Jurassic World trilogy, and the sixth overall entry of the Jurassic Park film franchise. Directed and co-written by Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the 2015’s Jurassic World, with a screenplay co-written by Emily Carmichael, Jurassic World Dominion is built to be the dinosaur film to end all dinosaur films. Slated for release on June 10th, 2022, the film features the returning cast from all entries of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films, which include Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum.
The first Jurassic Park film, directed by Steven Spielberg and based on the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton, remains one of the gold standard modern sci-fi films and while the Jurassic World films have become massive blockbusters, still have fans split on their quality. This film, however, seems to bridge the original and the new with both the humans and dinosaurs.
In the Jurassic World Dominion trailer, we see a world now filled with dinosaurs running free after the events of the previous film Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The trailer opens in a Valley of Gwangi-inspired horse chase where Jurassic World lead hero Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) trying to round up a herd of the duck-billed Parasaurolophus as throughout the trailer we hear a narration of the late original creator of Jurassic Park John Hammond (played by the late Richard Attenborough).
It’s clear there massive repercussions and changes to the world with dinosaurs as we get quick scenes such as Rexy the T-Rex at a drive-in theatre (which we saw in the prologue to the film released in 2021), the Mosasaur attacking a fishing vessel, and the biggest revelation of Blue the Velociraptor now having her own chick to raise.

Things become direr as we see the return of arguably the main antagonist of the Jurassic World trilogy, Dr. Henry Wu (played by BD Wong). Dr. Lewis Dodgson (played by Cameron Thor in Jurassic Park but is now being played by Campbell Scott) is briefly seen in the first film is the CEO of Biosyn Genetics. The fictional company is the rival to InGen, which created Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, as well as orchestrated the events of the first movie. As such, it is likely Dodgson and Dr. Wu are taking advantage of this chaos on top of creating new dinosaurs.
That would explain several new species we get to see for the first time throughout the Jurassic World Dominion trailer. Several highlights include the clawed Therizinosaurus chasing Jurassic World heroine Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), new raptors Atrociraptor chasing Owen on motorcycle, our first feathered raptor with the Pyroraptor attacking our heroes in the snow, and lastly the new big bad dinosaur of the film with the massive Giganotosaurus.
It’s clear from what we see in the Jurassic World Dominion trailer is that the film is honoring both the original film’s dinosaurs and bringing some more recent discoveries of dinosaurs to these new species. Not only do we get several classic dinosaurs such as the T-Rex and Velociraptor returning, but if social media is any sign, the return of the fan-favorite Dilophosaurus from the first film is getting positive reactions.
It is interesting this film is pushing the scientifically accurate feathered dinosaurs, the Pyroraptor, and Therizinosaurus. While the first film was hailed for being scientifically accurate at the time of its release, many paleontologists would have some gripes of the newer movies for staying with the original film’s designs and not bringing in more recent discoveries for the films.
While these films at the end of the day are blockbusters and not meant to be educational, it is a step in the right direction to showcase these recent discoveries to the masses as like the original films it should interest the public in the real science of these ancient creatures.
Plus one thing we can all agree from the Jurassic World Dominion trailer that has us all excited is seeing Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles from the original trilogy. It has been confirmed the original characters Alan Grant (Neill), Ellie Sattler (Dern), and Ian Malcolm (Goldblum) will have their own story co-existing with the Jurassic World protagonists so we don’t have to worry about Goldblum being another cameo again like he was in Jurassic: World: Fallen Kingdom.
