Keegan-Michael Key Joins ‘Wonka’
Comedian and actor Keegan-Michael Key is now listed on the IMDB page for the upcoming film ‘Wonka’. This film, based on the famous works of Roald Dahl, takes a look at a young Willy Wonka. It is suggested that the plot will cover how Wonka met the Oompa Loompas.
Though his character is not yet listed, we do know that he will be working beside Timothée Chalamet who is playing a young Willy Wonka. The script for ‘Wonka’ is written by Paul King and Simon Farnaby. The film is being produced by Warner Bros.
‘Wonka’ is set to drop in 2023. It is coming in at a time where we are seeing a lot of reboots and reimagining’s of children’s classics. This includes other works by Roald Dahl, such as the 2020 remake of ‘The Witches’ starring Anne Hathaway.
I’m excited to see how this movie develops. Roald Dahl was one of my favorite writers as a child. We don’t know (and may never know) if ‘Wonka’ will be canon to Dahl’s works or the other Willy Wonka-based movies. That said, Willy Wonka lore in any form sounds good to me. I can’t wait to explore this character a bit further, especially with Keegan-Michael Key on the cast.
