About The Hangover
Directed by Todd Phillips, The Hangover stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham, Justin Bartha and Jeffrey Tambor. It was released in the year 2009.
The Hangover is about four life-long friends who had to Las Vegas for a bachelor party but when they lose the Bachelor during a night of debauchery – they have have to put their differences aside to find their friend.
During a recent re-watch I started to think of other movies like The Hangover to add to your bucket list.
Here’s hoping you haven’t seen all of them.
1. Road Trip (2000)
Directed by Todd Phillips, Road Trip is a comedy about a college student named Josh who embarks on a road trip across the country with his friends to retrieve an embarrassing videotape he sent to his girlfriend. A videotape which may or may not show him cheating on her.
Along the way, they encounter a series of hilarious and unexpected challenges and adventures, as they race against time to reach their destination. The film is a coming-of-age comedy that explores themes of friendship, love, and growing up.

2. The Hungover Games (2014)
Directed by Josh Stolberg, The Hungover Games stars Ross Nathan, Ben Begley, Herbert Russell, Rita Volk and Jamie Kennedy. It was released in the year 2014.
The Hungover Games is a parody film which follows the plots of both The Hangover and The Hunger Games whilst also “bagging out” movies like Ted, Pirates of the Caribbean, Avatar, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Human Centipede, The Lone Ranger, Django Unchained, and the list goes on.
3. Get Him to the Greek (2010)
Directed by Nicholas Stoller, Get Him to the Greek is a comedy starring Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, Elisabeth Moss, Rose Byrne, Colm Meaney and Sean Combs. It was released in the year 2010.
Get Him to the Greek sees Russell Brand reprise his role as obnoxious rockstar, Aldous Snow, whom he portrayed in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. While Jonah Hill’s character, Aaron Green, is new to this film and is a talent scout who pitches that Aldous Snow perform at a famous venues called The Greek. Unfortunately for Aaron, when he first meets Aldous Snow, Aldous is on a downride spiral and needs a bit of motivation.
4. Van Wilder: Party Liaison (2002)
Directed by Walt Becker, Van Wilder: Party Liaison is about the main character, Van Wilder, a seventh-year senior at Coolidge College who has become a legendary campus figure and a master of partying. When Van’s father stops paying his tuition, Van must come up with a way to pay for school and keep up his wild lifestyle.
The film follows Van as he navigates college life and tries to find a way to keep his party-boy reputation intact while also facing challenges such as falling in love, dealing with rival fraternities, and avoiding expulsion. The film is known for its raunchy humor and fast-paced, over-the-top antics, making it a popular choice for fans of college comedies.
5. Porky’s (1981)
Directed and written by Bob Clark, Porky’s is a teen sex comedy starring Kim Cattrall, Scott Colomby, Kaki Hunter, Nancy Parsons, Alex Karras, and Susan Clark. It was released in the year 1981.
Porky’s is the originator of the teen sex comedy phase and was well ahead of its time. It follows a group of Florida high school students and their plans to lose their virginity which involves a notorious strip club called (yes, you guessed it): Porky’s.
6. Vacation (2015)
Directed and written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, Vacation is a road trip comedy starring Ed Helms, Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, Beverly D’Angelo and Chevy Chase. It was released in the year 2015.
Vacation is about Ed Helms’ character Rusty Griswold and his family as he decides to drastically change their vacation plans to go on a road trip from Chicago to Walley World. A road trip which his family used to do all the time when he was a kid.
7. Game Night (2018)
Directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Game Night stars Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Billy Magnussen, Sharon Horgan, Lamorne Morris, Kylie Bunbury, Jesse Plemons, Michael C. Hall and Kyle Chandler. It was released in the year 2018.
Game Night is a comedy about a group of friends whose game night goes from bad to worse when one of them is kidnapped, prompting a mystery they must all band together to solve.
8. The Hangover Part 2 (2013)
Directed by Todd Phillips, The Hangover Part 2 is the first sequel in The Hangover franchise and stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Jeffrey Tambor, Justin Bartha and Paul Giamatti. It was released in the year 2013.
The events in The Hangover Part 2 are set 2 years after the events of the first film. In which Stu is preparing to travel to Thailand to marry his fiancee, Lauren, and in order to avoid the events in Las Vegas he doesn’t allow his three best friends to come with him. This doesn’t go over well and he reluctantly lets them attend the wedding but when the four of them wake up hungover in Bangkok with no idea what happened things begin to spin out of control.
9. Eurotrip (2004)
Directed by Jeff Schaffer, Eurotrip is a comedy predominantly focused around a road trip and sex. It stars Scott Mechlowicz, Jacob Pitts, Michelle Trachtenberg and Travis Wester. It was released in the year 2004.
Eurotrip is about main character Scott Thomas who travels to europe in search of his hot pen pal. His friends, Cooper, Jenny and Jamie follow him on his quest which takes them to England, France, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Germany, and Italy. To name a few countries.
If you’re thinking this sounds like Road Trip except in Europe – you are right.

10. Dude, Where’s My Car? (2000)
Directed by Danny Leiner, Dude, Where’s My Car? is an absolutely bonkers comedy where everything that can go wrong does go wrong. It stars Ashton Kutcher, Seann William Scott, Kristy Swanson, Jennifer Garner, and Marla Sokoloff. It was released in the year 2000.
Dude, Where’s My Car? is about two roommates, Jesse and Chester, who wake up with hangovers only to find out their car is missing which sparks the iconic question “Dude, where’s my car?” The quest to track down their car involves a local arcade, a cannabis-loving dog named Jackal, a cult and some extraterrestrials that the pair may or may not have slept with.
In the end you’ll be happy to know the universe does not get destroyed, Jesse and Chester do not stay members of a cult and they do find their car.
11. Walk of Shame (2014)
Directed and written by Steven Brill, Walk of Shame is a comedy starring Elizabeth Banks, James Marsden, Gillian Jacobs and Sarah Wright Olsen. It was released in the year 2014.
Walk of Shame follows Elizabeth Banks’ character, Meghan Miles, who after being rejected for an anchor position at a news network decides to go out and get drunk at a club with her friends. However, when she wakes up in bed with Gordon, she decides to slip out and gets into all sorts of mishaps on her walk of shame home.
12. Bachelorette (2012)
Directed and written by Leslye Headland, Bachelorette stars Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, James Marsden, Kyle Bornheimer, Rebel Wilson and Adam Scott. It was released in the year 2012.
Bachelorette is based on Leslye Headland’s play of the same name and focuses on three women who reunite at the wedding of a friend who was teased relentlessly throughout high school.
13. Me, Myself and Irene (2000)
Directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly, Me, Myself and Irene is a crazy comedy starring Jim Carrey, Renee Zellweger, Chris Cooper, Robert Forster, Richard Jenkins, Daniel Greene, Anthony Anderson and Jerod Mixon. It was released in the year 2000.
Me, Myself and Irene is about Jim Carrey’s character, state trooper Charlie Baileygates, who has a history of everyone in his life taking advantage of him. To the point where his wife cheats on him with a black dwarf and she gives birth to triplets that are clearly not his. When his wife leaves him he decides to raise the three kids on his own. Being a push over and having difficulty with confrontations, Charlie eventually develops a split personality named “Hank Evans” who is the polar opposite of Charlie in every possible way.
When Charlie is ordered to escort Irene Waters to Massena, New York for a hit-and-run crime he begins to develop feelings for her. Feelings which are made hilariously worse when his split personality, Hank, convinces Irene to sleep with Charlie. And the insanity doesn’t end there.
14. Beerfest (2006)
Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, Beerfest is a comedy starring Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Will Forte, Ralf Moller, Mo’Nique, Eric Christian Olsen, Jurgen Prochnow and Cloris Leachman. It was released in the year 2006.
Beerfest focuses on the characters played by comedy group, Broken Lizard, and centers around Oktoberfest and the various mishaps that ensure when two of the characters, Jan and Todd, discover they are somehow relatted to drinking game tournament Baron Wolfgang von Wolfhausen.
15. Bad Moms (2016)
Directed and written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, Bad Moms is a comedy starring Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Annie Mumolo, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Christina Applegate. It was released in the year 2016.
Bad Moms is about three moms who are sick of being taken for granted and team-up to live their lives the way they want to live them. Rather than being relied on all the time.
16. Search Party (2014)
Directed by Scot Armstrong, Search Party is a comedy starring T.J. Miller, Adam Pally, Thomas Middleditch, Alison Brie, Shannon Woodward and Krysten Ritter. It was released in the year 2014.
Search Party is one of those many movies that came out in the wake of The Hangover’s popularity. It’s about a bachelor party involving a bunch of friends, drug use and a whole host of debaucherous incidents.
17. Detroit Rock City (1999)
Directed by Adam Rifkin, Detroit Rock City is a teen comedy starring Edward Furlong, Sam Huntington, Giuseppe Andrews, James DeBello, Lin Shaye, Melanie Lynskey, Natasha Lyonne and Shannon Tweed. It was released in the year 1999.
Detroit Rock City is about four teens in a heavy metal band who decide to go on a road trip to see Kiss. During which they end up all sorts of mishaps like disguising themselves as pizza delivery boys and drugging a Priest with hallucinogens, beating up a disco duo, dancing a lady’s strip club and getting themselves laid – all before seeing the greatest rock n roll band on earth!
18. Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019)
Directed by Scott Aukerman, Between Two Ferns is a comedy starring Zach Galifianakis, Lauren Lapkus, Ryan Gaul and Jiavani Linayao. It was released in the year 2019.
Between Two Ferns is a spin-off movie based on Zach Galifianakis’ web series of the same name. It follows Zach and his journey to bring his Between Two Ferns show to become a success. Even if that means he becomes a total laughing stock on his way to the top.
19. The Hangover: Part 3 (2013)
Directed by Todd Phillips, The Hangover Part 3 is a comedy and sequel to the second film in The Hangover franchise. It stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Justin Bartha and John Goodman. It was released in the year 2019.
Like the first two movies, The Hangover Part 3 follows Phil, Stu, Doug, and Alan except this time Alan needs help as he’s facing a personal crisis. This involves another debaucherous adventure and ties back into the events of the first film.
