Don't Hug Me I'm Scared Series Overview

About Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared is a short series on YouTube from a duo called Becky (Becky Sloan) and Joe (Joseph Pelling) of This Is It. The show features six episodes that surround a trio of friends named Yellow Guy, Red Guy, and Green Duck. It gives us a Sesame Street vibe with the darkest of clouds for tone.

The thing that makes this series great is that it continues to push you to the darkest area you can perceive the show going…and then going even further in the next episode. If you are a fan of an interrupting style thriller narrative, then you will like this show, even if it features characters in animal or felt costumes.

When I bring up Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared to my friends we all recall “GREEN IS NOT A CREATIVE COLOR!” It was such a stellar beginning point for this show but it is far from its only gem. Today we’re going to cover the entire season and take a look at the materials that are available for the future show this series is getting.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Episode 1: Get Creative

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared works with a numbers and small titling convention. Episode one levels the boom and ensures that you’ll have a magnet on your floor and in your jaw for every subsequent episode you partake in. Why aren’t you just watching it? The reactions, emotions, and shock you will feel absolutely make this an immersion and not just a simple processing. Note: The Website at the end of this video no longer exists.

Notebook: Green is not a creative color!

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Episode 2: Time

In this episode, the trio are gearing up to watch their favorite show when they are advised “There’s always time for a song”. Why was there a need for a song? Because that’s how Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared works best. You get a theme, a song, and total mental and psychological collapse. At least the song starts innocently enough…right?

Clock: The past is far behind us, the future doesn’t exist.

Green Duck: What do you mean? We’re already clean!
Clock: Scrub, scrub, scrub, til the water’s brown.

Red Guy: But we don’t really want to. We’re going to miss our show.
Clock: Don’t be stupid, friends! Come on now, it’s time to go!

Yellow Guy: Make it stop!
Clock: It’s out of my hands, I’m only a clock. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll be fine, but eventually everyone runs out of time.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Episode 3: Love

Our beloved trio starts this episode off on a nice, sunny, outdoor picnic. Nothing can go wrong, right? The comedy starts off hitting big notes with the misnomers of bugs. It then features Derp going on a flying adventure with a butterfly to get a further explanation of the idea of love. After some terrific connections for love and how it applies, we are then exposed to “The Story of Michael: The Loneliest Boy In Town” and Malcolm the King of Love. Was Derp’s mind cleaned for love or was it all a stress-induced dream?

Red Guy: I’d also like to eat the chicken. Let’s do that instead.

Butterfly: See everyone has their special one!

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Episode 4 Digital World

The fourth episode starts by showing us our near and dear gang playing a tabletop game. They encounter a question we all deal with on a daily basis “What is the biggest thing in the world?” After a few moments of waiting on a globe to assist them a computer jumps in to…save the day?

In a far greater turn of events, we learn that there’s a mind inside a mind and a world inside a world, the digital world. It comes complete with three activities: Pie charts, bar graphs, and line graphs, digital style, and digital dancing – truly the largest thing in the world. Then features a wall break of “The Matrix” levels ending with Noodle Man headless, well…what we could interpret as his head.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Episode 5: Healthy

This episode brings us into the trio’s house, but with our most shining of knights, Red Guy, missing. Yellow Guy and Green Duck try to put the pieces together but are brought into song by bread and food friends. The duo is advised that everyone gets hungry and it comes from their bodies but they must be careful what they eat or their teeth will turn grey! The episode explains how good and bad food is digested and features many phone call interruptions taking us and the characters to unexpected new places.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared Episode 6: Dreams

We only get to see Yellow Guy in the introduction of this episode mourning recent events and trying to sleep. A bedside lamp wants to talk about how dreams work much to the refusal of Yellow Guy and naturally, we are off on another adventure. It also gives us a look at how high level the Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared’s production can get when it provides a scene of Red Guy in a dystopian white environment with ever-flowing staircases.

Red Guy’s personality-resistant world is soon put on its head as he sees a familiar face in a crowd of Red Guys. Then re-introduces us to some of the key moments through the episodes.

Business Red Guy: No. That sounds really boring.

To be fair, this episode has many good moments but they are far more suspenseful than vocal.
